its only mean if you dont think about your pokemons feelings. being a trainer is about building a trust with your pokemon and working together. if a pokemon doesnt want to fight then you should be

able to see that. you shouldnt take those pokemon into battle. or you can figure out if theres something stopping them and help them.

fighting is the way pokemon protect people too. its not just about gym battles. and it helps pokemon to grow. we can help pokemon evolve and to become stronger. and when a trainer and pokemon are

in a battle together theres nothing like it. you both share the fight together. youre both in it. if you and your pokemon are truly partners then youre not making them do anything.
